Corpay launches Agent Card for AI business payments

Corpay has launched Agent Card for AI-driven business payments, allowing approved AI agents to create virtual cards for company transactions.

The feature is aimed at businesses using AI agents in purchasing, procurement, travel and advertising workflows, where software is increasingly handling routine commercial tasks.

Agent Card lets AI agents act on a company's behalf within the payment controls already used for virtual cards. It supports both user-directed agent experiences and machine-to-machine payment workflows.

The system includes authentication, spend-intent authorisation and open standards for AI connectivity. It is designed to work with leading AI agent platforms while keeping spending controls in place.

The launch builds on Corpay's recent push into AI features for finance teams. In April, it added an AI virtual assistant to its Corpay Complete platform, an earlier step in bringing AI tools into day-to-day finance operations.

Payment controls

Virtual cards sit at the centre of the new offering. They can be generated for a specific transaction or purpose and include limits and restrictions, making them a useful tool for companies seeking tighter oversight of business spending.

That control model is now being applied to AI-led transactions. Rather than giving an automated system broad access to a corporate payment method, Agent Card is intended to let businesses authorise spending for defined use cases while maintaining visibility over how money is used.

The feature could be used for supplier payments, digital advertising purchases, travel bookings and procurement workflows. These are areas where AI tools are starting to move beyond analysis or recommendation into action.

Danny Martucci, President and General Manager of Commercial Card at Corpay, described the shift as part of a broader change in business payments.

"Agentic commerce is creating a new frontier for business payments," Martucci said.

"With Agent Card, Corpay is enabling trusted AI agents to initiate secure, controlled payment workflows using the same principles that make virtual cards such a powerful tool for businesses today: authorization, control, visibility, and security," he said.

AI adoption

The launch comes as more companies test how AI agents can complete multi-step tasks across internal systems and external suppliers. In finance and procurement, one of the main concerns has been how to let automated tools execute transactions without weakening governance or increasing fraud risk.

Corpay is positioning Agent Card as part of that answer. By tying card issuance to specific controls and permissions, it is seeking to fit AI-based transaction tools into existing corporate oversight processes rather than replace them.

Broader business

Corpay operates across corporate payments, including employee spending, accounts payable and international payments. Its products cover expense management, corporate cards, vendor payments, cross-border transactions and travel-related spending.

It also serves customers in sectors including automotive, construction, education, government, healthcare, manufacturing and transportation. That broad customer base gives it a range of potential use cases for AI-directed payment tools, especially in industries with repeat purchasing and structured approval workflows.

As businesses move from using AI for support tasks to allowing software to complete approved actions, payment providers are under pressure to build systems that connect automation with oversight. Agent Card is Corpay's latest effort to place virtual card controls at the centre of that shift.
