Kitestring and GK Software have entered a strategic partnership focused on retail technology implementations, formalising a relationship that has developed over several years.

The partnership centres on Kitestring's role in helping retailers prepare to deploy GK's point-of-sale software, particularly during the pre-discovery stage before formal implementation begins. That work includes aligning business objectives, mapping operational workflows and laying the groundwork for projects that often involve complex store systems and multiple vendors.

Based in Bentonville, Arkansas, Kitestring has worked with GK on major retail roll-outs, including projects involving one of the largest department store retailers in the US. Its team has developed certified expertise in GK's platform and in some cases acts as an extension of GK's professional services organisation.

Retailers are under pressure to update ageing store technology without disrupting trading, while software suppliers are trying to make deployments less dependent on proprietary hardware. The tie-up reflects that shift, with both companies pointing to demand for more flexible ways to run point-of-sale systems and related applications.

GK's OmniPOS software is central to the relationship. The companies say the system can be deployed on modern edge infrastructure rather than only through traditional retail hardware models, giving retailers more options in how they run checkout and store systems.

Implementation focus

A defining part of the arrangement is the early-stage advisory work Kitestring carries out with prospective GK customers. The process is intended to identify requirements before formal discovery engagements begin, reducing uncertainty later in implementation programmes.

That pre-discovery work can be significant in retail technology projects, where checkout systems often need to connect with ordering, payments, commerce platforms and in-store operations. Such integrations have become more important as retailers seek to link physical stores more closely with digital services.

Kitestring also maintains an innovation lab at its Bentonville headquarters, where GK OmniPOS is installed for live demonstrations. The facility has been used to design and test demonstration environments showing how the software can connect with other retail systems in multi-vendor settings.

One demonstration linked GK OmniPOS with ordering, payment and digital commerce tools for fuel and convenience retailers. The companies have also shown GK OmniPOS alongside GK Vision, a computer vision product aimed at fraud prevention at self-checkout.

Broader context

The partnership reflects a wider trend in retail technology, as suppliers move checkout and store applications towards more modular software architectures and infrastructure that can run across different device types. For retailers, that can influence hardware choices, deployment costs and the speed at which systems can be updated across large store estates.

GK is part of Fujitsu's consumer experience division and continues to operate under its existing brand. It says it has annual revenue of more than €200 million and employs more than 1,400 people, with customers including large retailers in grocery, convenience and department stores.

Kitestring describes itself as a vendor-agnostic technology services firm working across software and hardware providers in the US, Canada and Mexico. Its services include consulting, system selection, custom development and staffing, with a particular focus on point-of-sale selection and implementation.

Both companies presented the partnership as a way to reduce risk in large retail transformation projects, where delays or poor integration can carry high operational costs. In that context, implementation partners with experience in both software configuration and store operations can play a larger role in shaping projects before they move into full deployment.

"We stay vendor-agnostic when helping clients select a POS software provider, but the deeper our partnerships run, the more effectively we can guide them through the risks," said Eugene Park, Chief Delivery Officer at Kitestring.

"Those same close working relationships are what allow us to accelerate and de-risk implementations," said Park.

Bill Miller, General Manager and President of GK Software USA, described GK's view of the arrangement.

"At GK, we continuously invest in a flexible, open, MACH-based platform to provide retailers across all segments with future-ready capabilities. Delivering successful transformations increasingly depends on building a strong ecosystem of partners across technology, services and infrastructure. Kitestring brings deep expertise in guiding retailers through complex decision-making processes, helping them identify the right solutions and partnerships for their specific needs. Together, we enable our joint customers to move faster, reduce risk and unlock the full value of modern retail platforms," said Miller.
