Apricorn appoints Jeanclaude Toma as Chief Executive

Wed, 29th Apr 2026 (Today)

Apricorn has appointed Jeanclaude Toma as Chief Executive Officer as it enters a new stage of growth.

Toma joins the data storage and security supplier with more than 25 years of experience in IT infrastructure, data storage and semiconductors. He will lead the next phase of the business as Apricorn looks to broaden its reach in regulated sectors including government, defence, healthcare and financial services.

The appointment marks a leadership change at the company, which is known for hardware-encrypted external storage products designed to secure data at rest and in transit. Its software-free approach to encryption allows customers to protect information independently of host systems and operating environments.

Before taking the top role, Toma held executive leadership positions at Apace Systems. He was selected for his operational and commercial experience, including scaling technology businesses and aligning teams while maintaining their existing strengths.

Apricorn has built its business around customers in security-sensitive, highly regulated markets, including the public sector, defence, healthcare, finance, legal digital forensics, education and industry.

Its hardware-encrypted products are aimed at organisations that need to move sensitive information across users, devices and locations while retaining control of that data. Reliability and ease of deployment are key requirements in many of the environments it serves.

Paul Brown, Founder of Apricorn, outlined the thinking behind the appointment.

"Jeanclaude brings not only the leadership and operating knowledge needed for Apricorn's next chapter, but also specific experience with the regulated industries we serve," said Brown. "His ability to strengthen execution and scale businesses is critical as we expand our reach across key markets. We are confident in his ability to drive consistent growth while preserving Apricorn's reputation for delivering trusted, high-assurance security offerings."

Toma set out his view of the company and its market in his first comments after the appointment.

"I am honoured to join Apricorn to help the company further serve customers. The company's hardened and encrypted data vaults adhere to the highest industry standards, which present us with a tremendous growth opportunity," said Toma. "I'm excited to help Apricorn build on its strong reputation for purpose-built security products that organisations rely on to protect sensitive data and enable its secure use across distributed environments."

Apricorn has operated for more than four decades and is based in Poway, near San Diego, California. It is an AS9100- and FIPS-certified manufacturer and supports government procurement requirements including TAA and CMMC.

The business focuses on hardware-encrypted storage platforms using 256-bit AES XTS encryption. Its products are designed to address concerns around data portability and protection, giving it a foothold in markets where organisations face strict security rules and close scrutiny over how information is stored and moved.

The appointment puts an operating executive with sector experience at the head of a specialist security supplier looking to expand its customer base and partner network. For Toma, it means taking charge of a company whose products are already used in some of the most tightly controlled parts of the economy.
